Unpacking the Upcoming Awards Season: Nominees in Movies, Music, Gaming (and more)
Tomorrow is Nobel Prize Day. Though I have no inclination as to who that award will be going to, my role as Editor at The Weekly Forekast has drawn my attention to a few other awards, given the beginning of Award Season rolling into town. The Golden Globes also announced their nominees this morning — perfect timing.
I thought I’d offer a quick rundown of awards related events coming up in the next few months, and front runners to check out. Save this list to your notes app for future reference.
Let’s run through nominees announced (so far) for The Billboard Music Awards, The Game Awards, The Kennedy Center Honors, The Golden Globes, The Grammys, and the Academy Awards.
The 2024 Billboard Music Awards
Date: Thursday, December 12, 2024
The BBMAs honors the year’s biggest artists, albums, songs, producers and songwriters across multiple genres, as determined by year-end performance metrics on the Billboard charts. The eligibility dates for this year’s awards are aligned with Billboard’s Year-End Charts tracking period, which measures music consumption from the charts dated Oct. 28, 2023 through Oct. 19, 2024.
Here are the finalists for Top Artist of the Year.

The Game Awards 2024
Date: Thursday, December 12, 2024
The Game Awards aims to recognize the best creative and technical work each year, irrespective of the format of that content’s release. Expansion packs, new game seasons, DLCs, remakes and remasters are eligible in all categories, if the jury deems the new creative and technical work to be worthy of a nomination.
Astro Bot and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth led the way with seven nominations, while Metaphor followed with six. PlayStation games received 16 nods, making it the most nominated publisher. Below is the list of nominees for Game of the Year.

The Kennedy Center Honors
Date Airing: December 22, 2024
Okay so, we know the honorees for this one already. The Kennedy Center paid tribute to Francis Ford Coppola, the Grateful Dead, Bonnie Raitt, Arturo Sandoval, and The Appollo Theater. The choice to honor The Apollo was an unusual one: the first time the Kennedy Center has chosen to honor a specific performance venue.

The 2025 Golden Globes
Date: Sunday, January 5, 2025
I’ve already seen Conclave and Dune: Part Two and I can attest to them both being worth your time. I’ve also heard fantastic things about The Brutalist and Anora.
Coming off of her total annihilation of Tom Brady at the Brady Roast, Nikki Glaser will be hosting which should be fantastic.

The Motion Picture — Drama Actor categories are stacked for both the female and male categories — Pamela Anderson, Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Tilda Swinton, Fernanda Torres, and Kate Winslet for the ladies, and Adrien Brody, Timothee Chalamet, Daniel Craig, Colman Domingo, Ralph Fiennes and Sebastian Stan for the gents.

The 2025 Grammy Awards

The 2025 Academy Awards
Date: Sunday, March 2, 2025
The 97th Oscars® will take place on Sunday, March 2, 2025. The show will air live on ABC and in more than 200 territories worldwide from the Dolby® Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. Conan O’Brien hosts this year.
We expect to get the list of nominees on January 17, 2025. I’ll update this page when we get the noms.
